I want the Democrats to STAND UP FOR ME

But they don't stand up for me. They won't stand up for me...

The Democrats don't stand for me on the War on Iraq.

The Democrats don't stand for me on Global Warming.

The Democrats don't stand for me on bankruptcy.

The Democrats don't stand for me on SCOTUS.

The Democrats don't stand for me on Universal Health Care.

The Democrats don't stand for me on the minimum wage.

The Democrats don't stand for me on a just peace in the Middle East.

The Democrats don't stand for me on the failed war on drugs.

The Democrats don't stand for me on media consolidation.

The Democrats don't stand for me on eminent domain abuse.

The Democrats don't stand for me on environmental justice.

The Democrats don't stand for me on ending dependency on foreign oil.

The Democrats don't stand for me on ethics in the House of Representatives.

The Democrats don't stand for me on saying no to torture.

The Democrats don't stand for me on the Ninth Amendment.

The Democrats don't stand for me on the Second Amendment.

The Democrats don't stand for me on the Patriot Act.

I keep wanting the Democrats to stand for me, but every time they get the chance, they fall for lies then apologize.

Panel Approves Roberts

WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday endorsed John Roberts to be the Supreme Court’s next chief justice, sending the nomination to the full Senate for a confirmation vote, scheduled for next week.

The vote was 13 to 5, with the committee's majority of 10 Republicans united behind Roberts.

Well Said

Conservativ[ism] is less government philosophy than it is Rich Man's Religion. Gotta Cut, if it doesn't affect me personally. Gotta Spend, if I get a piece of that pie. Gotta Proselytize, if it convinces the poor suckers over the county line to check the box next to my name. Gotta Vote the way the party tells me to, or the money spigot gets turned off. - a post by Hunter at dailykos

Notes from the Elevator

A Different KBR (Halliburton) Building

"It's a shame it had to happen this way, but this is fantastic!".

So, it took me a while to realize that I work in the same building as one of the most hated companies in America.

Halliburton subsidiary, Kellog, Brown, & Root Services Inc. , aka KBR, lives in my building. I'll tell you, sometimes it just makes me sick to listen in on some of the conversations. Everyday I see them come and go, their red badges attached to their necks, their salesman's suits, their bad cigarette breath; the KBR-force. Hey, it's a living!

I'd always just tried to hold my breath whenever I was stuck in the elevator with the war-profiteers next door. Sometimes, I'd engage the Cheneyettes in light conversation, "Nice Weather... mmmm hmm..". Sometimes, I'd just listen in on their talk of multi-billion dollar Iraqi operations, or oil pipelines through the middle east. Sometimes, I'd hold my breath and wait for the little red floor indicator to read "6", so that I could get out as fast as possible.

This morning, however, I heard something that just confused me, until I put 2+2 together and came up with a deep and abiding rage that I can't seem to shake.

Today, a couple of salesguys were talking and said the following:

"It's a shame it had to happen this way, but this is fantastic!".

Which didn't click with me until I read the paper today:

An Arlington-based Halliburton Co. subsidiary that has been criticized for its reconstruction work in Iraq has begun tapping a $500 million Navy contract to do emergency repairs at Gulf Coast naval and Marine facilities damaged by Hurricane Katrina.-- Halliburton Subsidiary Taps Contract For Repairs

Ah ha! Yes, the same group that won a $10.7 bn no-bid contract to logistically support the liars who sent us to war in Iraq, the same group that had to return millions of dollars they overcharged the government, the same group that has no idea what happened to $8.8 bn that disappeared without a trace in Iraq, these are the ones we're going to put in charge of rebuilding New Orleans.

I think I'm gonna to throw up.

Why should the government do anything to protect the lives and property of citizens when it profits corporate cronies so much better when they don't?

But this is the thinking of the "no taxes" crowd, guys like the Bushs, Jerry Kilgore and other radical right-wingers who control our Government. It's better to keep government weak and ineffective in doing for people what they can't do for themselves. It's better to leave people out there on their own, and then give big contracts to private companies to clean it up. See, if the government does it, it doesn't increase GDP, but if the government pays a contractor to do it, GDP goes up. To these latter-day Marie Antoinettes, that's called prosperity.

Yeah, where there's disaster, pain, suffering, misery, war, famine, death, and disease, there you'll find my neighbors, the good folks at KBR rollin' in the dough.

Isn't that just "FANTASTIC"!?

Elections Have Consequences

I want to state this clearly and briefly for all to hear:

Elections Have Consequences.

Every time an official is elected to office there are consequences.

Those consequences directly result from ideology.

Over the last 30 years, nationwide, we have elected a storm of wrong minded officials at the local, state, and national levels. These frail and callow private servants believe that wealth is virtue, that what is right for business is right for America, that those who live in poverty deserve to live in poverty, and that government's responsibilities do not extend past creating subsidies for the largest corporate entities.

By making this nation only serve the wealthy and massive capital interests, we have made our nation an ugly shade of the gift of America.

When a baby dies in filth, surrounded by its destroyed city, we must all share the blame.

New Orleans died because we didn't do enough to protect her. We didn't do enough support the interests of communities over the interests of lobbyists. We didn't do enough to invest in the future of America instead of allowing war profiteers to steal it. We didn't do enough to stand up for education, science, and authentic human compassion against the hypocritical Moralizers who profane the scriptures they claim to champion.

It's time to wake up! It's time to fight!

Government is the only power that protects the working people of this nation from abuse by the rich and powerful. Our government is now dominated by enemies of working men and women. The ethic of responsible government never enters their minds.

Extremists across the nation work daily from a thousand elected offices to strip the power of government by starving it of resources while giving huge benefits to freeloading billionaires. They must be removed.

Any official who has signed a "No Taxes" pledge must be removed from office by all communities of conscience. No official who has signed such a pledge should ever be elected again in this nation.

We have watched the corrupt elected toadies of corporate malfeasance sell the American dream into oblivion. Our inaction has cost our brothers and sisters in New Orleans their homes, their beloved city, and their lives.

When a beligerent nationalism is combined with a government ruled by large corporate interests, a republic ends, replaced with something too ugly to name. We have precious little time, and it falls to us to save the beauty of this nation from the gorgons of greed and ignorance.

Elections have consequences. Make every one count.
